Currently, there are two types of four-stroke engine bikes available imported from India, i.e., bikes with BS6 and BS4 engines.
Many people do not have a clear concept of which of these two types of engines is better and what the difference is between them. Many people have many questions, so in today’s post. I will try to give you some ideas about this.
Just trying to figure out what this BS is all about? BS4 stands for Bharat Stage 4. That is, the Indian government has set a limit on how much carbon can be emitted from motorcycle engines produced in their country. This law was passed in 2000.
From then until 2010, it was mandatory to use BS3-compliant engines, and in 2017, BS4-compliant engines were made mandatory, following which BS6 engines were made mandatory for motor vehicles from 2020 onwards.
Now let’s know the difference between BS4 and BS6 engines.
To be honest, there is no significant difference between the two engines; the main difference is in the exhaust system, i.e. the BS6 engine has slightly more filtration than the BS4 and an upgraded catalytic converter has been used to reduce carbon emissions.

For example, the BS4 engine emits 80 mg of carbon and the BS6 emits 60 mg. But the condition is that if this carbon emission level is to be low, good-quality fuel must be used so that the combustion process is more perfect.
Now let’s try to find out which of the two engines is better.
Since the engine specifications are the same, there shouldn’t be a noticeable difference in power output, but since the BS6 engine has extra filtration in the exhaust system, there may be a slight lag in power delivery that doesn’t really matter.
Now come to the decision: which one should we buy and why?
Since the fuel quality of our country is not very good, the carbon emissions of the BS6 engine will not be very low. Moreover, there is no specific law regarding carbon emission levels in our country due to these reasons
Buying a BS4 engine bike is affordable for us because the price of a BS4 engine bike is relatively low.
However, those who are environmentally conscious can buy a BS6 engine bike at a slightly higher price but must ensure good quality fuel consumption or the carbon emission levels will not be less than BS4.
As today’s latest models of bikes and bike engines are technologically advanced, it is recommended to buy an official bike with well-trained technical hands, a warranty and service support that will ensure the longevity of your motorbike.
