Is modification Beneficial or Dangerous?-Expert Opinion

There are many young bikers among us who love speed. They are very worried about how to increase the top speed of the bike they are riding.

Targeting such bikers, the country’s aftermarket importers create hype with racing coils, racing plugs, racing ECU types, etc. We also get a lot of inquiries about this from bikers.

But the thing to know is whether such things are of any use at all or just brain wash??

Mind you, the bikes we ride are entry level bikes.

125 to 165 cc single cylinder bikes are not made for racing purpose. They are mostly suitable for daily commuting, city rides.

Is it possible that a 150 cc commuter bike will perform like a 300 cc bike by fitting a racing coil, racing plug or exhaust??

No, never possible. A manufacturer goes through a lot of tests and adds every part to the bike to give it maximum performance as well as long lasting.

Suppose, after calculating the engine power, weight, chassis of your bike, the manufacturing company gave 100 size wheels.

In this, your bike’s acceleration, mileage, braking will all be at optimum level.

Now if you accidentally put a 140 size tire in there then what will happen??

Mileage will decrease, acceleration will decrease, top speed will decrease, more pressure will be applied to the engine, the lifetime of the chain sprocket will decrease, the balancing of the bike will become random. However, braking may be slightly better due to increased friction, and vice versa, and fatter wheels look a little nicer.

You are losing 4-5 beneficial aspects to get this one or two minor benefits.

I am not saying that modification or aftermarket accessories are bad in all cases, but racing coils, plugs, ECU type things are not really useful for low cc bikes of our country.

Maybe the acceleration will be a little bit smoother, the top speed might increase by 2-3, but spending 10-15-20-30 thousand rupees for this is a waste. The biggest thing is that most of the racing coil, CDI, plug, exhaust type products available in our country behind colorful advertisements are of very low quality.

Many people want to modify drum brakes and install discs, it is also risky. Because I wanted to and put the disc, there is no chance to think that the braking has improved

The length, width, weight distribution, wheel size of the bike should be measured to find out which size or diameter disc is most suitable for your bike. Which is an almost impossible task for an ordinary garage mechanic

Moreover, failure to properly install and use standard braking equipment can be counterproductive.

Since braking is a very sensitive issue, experimenting with it clumsily is dangerous.

Another question I get a lot is whether ABS should be installed on non-ABS bikes? And how much risk?

ABS is an important safety feature that every bike should have but many bikes in our country do not have ABS braking system pre-installed. Many people want to install aftermarket ABS but there is confusion, will aftermarket ABS be good?

Will it work fine?

Yes, the bikes we get ABS braking in, the ABS motor and accessories are not manufactured by the same bike company. They also get it from a third party and install it on the bike only after passing their tests.

If you buy a good brand ABS motor and install it in your bike from the accessories market, it will give the same performance.

But there is a special condition that the whole installation process must and must be done by experienced expert hands and proper tools.
