How long does a motorbike battery last and why does it die quickly?

do you know

Why is the durability of your motorcycle battery decreasing? Your bike battery needs proper care and maintenance to last longer.

First need to know how many months bike battery should last?

Battery manufacturers say a motorcycle battery can last anywhere from 18 months to a maximum of 48 months, but in most cases, lack of maintenance is the cause of battery death.

By reading this article, you will know what causes your bike battery to fail and its remedy.

Battery overloading

If you want to decorate your bike like a wedding house, keep in mind that this will put extra stress on your bike battery. Yes you can install some accessories, but after installation check the battery voltage by starting the engine of the bike and all the accessories together. If the voltage is less than 9 volts, your bike battery is in danger of dying.

Faulty voltage regulator:

This problem is more common in the bikes of those who ride for a long time or for a very long time. Faulty controllers or options reduce battery life when riding for long periods of time. This causes the bike battery to lose performance very quickly. A faulty voltage regulator can cause your bike to shut down while in motion. For this it is necessary to check whether the regulator of the bike and all the parts connected to it are correct at regular intervals.

Bad connection:

Check carefully whether all the parts connecting to the battery are properly attached. Make sure that the correct amount of charge is applied each time. Check the connections for corrosion. If necessary, use a light sandpad or Scotch Brite to clean the connections.

Heat and Vibration:

Some bike batteries cannot withstand the heat generated by the bike engine and the excessive vibration of the bike. It destroys the normal capacity of the battery. In this case, AGM batteries and gel cell batteries can absorb more heat and vibration.

You know why your bike battery may have problems. Now let’s know some tips to keep the bike battery good

  1. Check your motorcycle battery performance once every month.
  2. After a long ride, check the battery for proper connections.
  3. Check if the battery is usually hot or overheated.
  4. Check the battery for any leaks or cracks.
  5. Reduce battery load as much as possible.
  6. Use the kick during the first start of the morning.
  7. Do not charge yourself with the headlights on, it puts a lot of strain on the battery.
  8. It is better not to use cheap HID bulbs, because cheap HID bulbs are not of the right wattage, as a result of which the battery wears out quickly, if you want to use HID, buy the wattage of the good brand and the wattage of your bike’s headlight.
  9. Many people like to decorate the bike like a wedding hall with LED strips, this is also harmful to the battery and wiring of your bike.
  10. If you have to stand for a long time in a traffic jam or at a signal at night, keep the headlights off, if you want, you can also keep the engine off, it will prevent wastage of oil.
  11. Check the water level of the liquid cell battery that comes with your bike at least once a month, refill the level with distilled water if the level gets low.

The stock battery that comes with the bike is often not of good quality, so even if it takes a little more money to change the battery, try to buy a good brand of battery, definitely buy a battery with the same amperage as the stock battery of your bike.

Here I have tried to touch every point related to our motorbike battery. If you think there is more left then don’t forget to tell in the comment box.
